When managing your Shopify store across multiple markets, understanding how to effectively publish or unpublish products for specific regions is key to ensuring a tailored shopping experience for your customers. Here’s a detailed breakdown on how to manage product availability across different markets:

Requirements for Publishing Products for Each Market

To provide a localized shopping experience, you should have:

  • A compatible theme with a country selector, or use the Geolocation app to allow customers to choose their location.
  • Ensure products have appropriate settings like prices and translations for the specific markets.

How to Publish or Unpublish Products

To Publish a Product to a Specific Market:

  1. Go to Settings > Markets in your Shopify admin. Go to Settings then Markets in your Shopify admin.
  2. Select the market where you want to manage products.
  3. Click Products and pricingClick Products and pricing
  4. Use the Excluded tab to view products not currently in this market.
  5. Select the products you want to include and click Include in marketUse the Excluded tab to view products not currently in this market. Select the products you want to include and click Include in market
  6. Confirm your selection to make the products available in that market.

To Unpublish a Product from a Specific Market:

  1. Follow the same steps as above but start from the Included tab. Unpublish a Product from a Specific Market
  2. Select the products you want to exclude and click Exclude from market.
  3. Confirm to remove the products from the market.

Bulk Publishing or Unpublishing

For handling multiple products at once, Shopify allows you to:

  • Use the Bulk Editor: Select multiple products in your product list, then use the bulk editing feature to include or exclude products from specific markets.
  • Use a CSV File: Export a CSV file, adjust the 'Included' column for each market to TRUE (to include) or FALSE (to exclude), and then re-import the file.

Filtering Products by Published Status

You can filter your products based on their published status to easily see which are available in a specific market by navigating to:

  1. Settings > Markets.
  2. Select your desired market.
  3. Click Products and pricing and use the Included or Excluded filters.

Draft Orders and Order Editing

Product availability rules per market do not apply to draft orders or when editing orders, meaning you can sell products not typically available in a customer’s market through these methods.

Online Store Search Results

Ensure your store's search function only displays products available in the customer's market. If using a third-party search app, verify with the developer about market-based filtering.

Redirection Behavior

If a customer tries to access a product not available in their market, they are redirected to the home page. This ensures they only interact with products they can actually purchase.

Considerations and Limitations

  • Product publishing settings apply primarily to the online store and certain custom storefronts.
  • Changes made in the market settings affect only those channels that recognize the inContext directive.
  • It's important to keep monitoring and adjusting your market settings as your business evolves and as you expand into new regions.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your Shopify store operates efficiently across different markets, providing a localized and relevant product offering to your international customers.
