Managing bill payments within your Shopify store involves understanding the various payment methods available for different types of bills, such as general Shopify bills, Shopify Shipping billing, and external business bills through Shopify Bill Pay. Each type of bill offers distinct payment options, and choosing the right one depends on your specific needs and the type of bill you're paying.

General Bill Payments

For general Shopify bills, including your subscription, you can use a variety of payment methods:

  • Credit Cards: Mastercard, Visa, and American Express are accepted.
  • Co-branded Debit Cards: Must be set up for international and recurring transactions.
  • Shopify Balance: Utilize your Shopify Balance for payments if available.
  • PayPal: A flexible option for one-time or recurring payments.
  • ACH Debits: For US-based stores on the Shopify Plus plan with a USD bank account.
  • SEPA Direct Debit: Available for German stores on non-Plus plans using EUR.

Shopify Shipping Billing

Shopify Shipping labels and adjustments are charged to the credit card on file for your Shopify account. Charges are made in USD and are subject to threshold billing, meaning you're invoiced once you reach a certain spending amount within a billing cycle. If the threshold isn't reached, charges are added to your monthly Shopify subscription bill.

Shopify Bill Pay

Shopify Bill Pay allows US-based stores to pay external business bills directly through the Shopify admin. Payment options include:

Bank Transfer
Business Credit or Debit Card
Shopify Balance Account

This feature consolidates your financial operations, offering flexibility in managing outgoing payments. International payments through Shopify Bill Pay are made in USD and require a bank account or Shopify Balance account.

Payment Considerations

  • Credit and Co-branded Debit Card: Ensure your card is eligible for recurring payments and has international capabilities if needed. Specific considerations apply to certain countries, like France, India, and Brazil.
  • Shopify Balance: Use your Shopify Balance card for paying Shopify bills without needing to enter card details.
  • PayPal: In Canada or Australia, PayPal is only available for bills set to USD billing.
  • ACH Debits and SEPA Direct Debit: Check with your bank to confirm if your account accepts these types of debits.

Paying Shopify Shipping Label Charges

Shipping label charges are directly billed to the credit card on file and are based on threshold billing to manage the payment process efficiently. If thresholds are not met within a billing cycle, charges will be included in your monthly subscription bill.

International and Domestic Payments via Shopify Bill Pay

  • Domestic Payments: Can be made through bank transfer, business credit/debit card, or Shopify Balance.
  • International Payments: Must be in USD using a bank account or Shopify Balance, paid through wire transfer.
